Travertine

I have Travertine tile in my foyer and also my bathroom. The travertine in my shower floor has developed a rough finish, and I know it has to be addressed. My installer does not respond to my queries. What do I need to do to save this floor and also treat the other places in my house. We built this house seven years ago. Thank you, Kirk & Natalie byrn

Dear Kirk & Natalie:

Like the next guy, I hate being the bearer of bad news, but if your shower stall floor has become rough, considering how tough travertine is, the situation is probably too far gone to save it. You must have water under those tiles, and a lot of it, and for a very long time.

If you check your grout and/or caulk lines both on the floor and the walls, you will notice that some are missing or damaged.

Although I sincerely hope I'm wrong on this one, as a first impression it sounds to me like it's jack-hammer time, alas!... :-(

Just to make sure, get hold of a reputable stone restoration contractor and consult with him or her.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
