Sealing a marble table top

Hello, We are new parents of a marble table top. Do I need to seal it? what about hot and cold dishes? Can you tell me what will etch this surface? Should I be careful what I clean it with? I'm afraid I don't know much about it. Thank you for your time. Kathy

Dear Kathy:

Can you tell me what will etch this surface?

This side of plain water, just about anything you can think of.

Do I need to seal it?

No.

what about hot and cold dishes?

No problem ther, providing that you put a hot pot full of food onto it directly from the stove top.

Should I be careful what I clean it with?

Absolutely. You must use exclusively a spray cleaning product rated “for natural marble” (cultured marble is manmade plastic) like MB-5. (Available at: http://www.mbstonecare.com)

I'm afraid I don't know much about it.

That's understandable. But question begs to be asked: why the merchants who sold the table-top to you weren't any more intelligent than you about its maintenance requirements?!... L

I you plan to entertain, let me urge you not to use your marble table bare. First you will proudly show it to your guests, and then you always cover it with a sheet of plastic and then place your good linen over it.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
