Hi - In certain light, it appears that there is some very fine scratches in my Tropical Brown granite. You really have to look hard to see them. You can't feel them with your fingernail. Is this normal? Could they hav been there from the beginning? Like I said, they are very very fine scratched - trying to put my mind at ease :) Thanks!

Without actually seeing your stone I can't venture any sure comment. So take my follow-up just as an assumption.

However, you should not be seeing any scratches in a brand-new installation. They may be some sort of manufacturing flaw.

Could the situation be rectified?

If they are all over the countertop, the only way to rectify it is take the countertop back to the shop, hoping that's one of those few shops where they have a bed-polisher and can actually polish granite slabs.

If they are only in one spot or two, then a proficient stone restoration contractor should be able to fix it on location.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
