Limestone Floors

Q. I recently had limestone installed in my foyer. However, the contractor put too much of the wrong sealant on dirty floors. The beautiful honed limestone I bought felt rough and looked streaky and waxy. He has tried to correct it by scrubbing by hand and buffing it. So now I have streaky floors that can double as an ice skating rink. The contractor has now walked away from the job. I'm not sure what to do and who to call to fix it. Any advice and reccommendations? Thank you.

A. I hate to say it but this is just another example of why we so strongly urge consumers to check out their contractors and make sure they are qualified to do the job! Sealing a stone floor is not complicated, but the first rule is to make sure all dirt and debris is completely removed. As Maurizio always said, it's the stone restoration contractors that are the 'Doctors' of the industry. You can locate a qualified stone restoration contractor to rehone your foyer floor and seal it properly here: www.stoneandtilepros.com/findapro.php. If you can't find one in your immediate area, call them at (877) 715.5313 and they'll do what they can to match you up with the closest contractor.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
