honing or antiquing granite

Q. What is the difference between honing and antiquing granite? Is this a good option for kitchen counters since I don't like shiny? I will be making a decision on this in a week or so. Thanks. Christy

A. Hi Christy. Honing is simply sanding the surface of the stone, while antique uses acids and brushes to give the stone a more uneven, worn surface. There would be no real advantage of one over the other in your kitchen. Do make sure the surface is sealed properly though.
