tumbled marble

Q. I did a stupid thing and took a salespersons advice without checking it out! Now I am paying for it. I poured straight vinegar on my shower floor to clean the soap scum, now my floor looks awful and chalky white all over. What if anything can I do to fix my stupid mistake? Thanks for any advice you can give.

A. This sounds like it may be too severe for a DIY fix. If the damaged area were small or not so severe that you could feel it with your fingertips, I would suggest you use MB Stone Care MB11 to manually polish out the etching. However, in your case, it does sound like the damage was more extensive. I think you will need to contact a qualified stone restoration contractor in your area (www.stoneandtilepros.com/findapro.php).

Now, in the future what you want to do is avoid any cleaning agents not designated safe for natural stone. To clean soap scum from your shower use MB Stonecare MB3 Soap Film Remover (http://www.mbstonecare.com).

For daily cleaning and to help prevent that buildup, spritz a little MB Stonecare MB-5 after everyone has showered for the day.

You may want to download and read The Stone Care Guide also. It's full of good information to arm yourself with.
