sandstone

Hi I have an 1830s sandstone house in Hobart Tasmania. The stone is in really good condition. I have been looking into hydrophobic sealers for some specific areas like window sills (of which two are in the worst condition of all the stone). Any comments on the usefulness of these sealers. What goes into them? Can they be made at home or what? regards kevin

Dear Kevin :

That house is there for almost 200 years it was never sealed and is still in excellent conditions. And now, all of a sudden, you feel the urge to seal it (or at least part of it)… Tsk, tsk, tsk!... :-)

It's hard to tell without seeing specific details if a hydrophobic impregnator would do any good; however, for all I know, even it could be somehow beneficial, I wouldn't know how to make one out of my kitchen table… :-(

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
