Q.i have had this kithcen counter installed for 5 months - it is a grooved and rough finish on the top and also at some points on the edge. we've had two small chips happen on the edge of the counter already. the only good news is it's not easy to spot the chips due to the texture of the granite already. looking down the side of the edge now i am seeing alot of fissures and what appears to be potential for more chips - the first time the granite company came in and put silicone in the chip as i didn't have the granite chip - i do now and they are coming back but we are ultra careful with the countertop and two chips in 5 months isn't right and i have a one year warranty on the granite. your thoughts pls. thank you.

A. Flamed granite for a kitchen countertop could be prone to chipping as the flaming process removes softer minerals from the granite to give it the rough look. This could cause

the edges to have a weakness in the structure of the stone.

The chipping will probably continue so be as careful as possible.I dont know of anyway to stop it.
