how to clean a spot on unfinished marble table

Q.I have a Paul Klaeholm PK 54 table with the unfinished white marble top. Its very easily spotted. Someone spilled some pizza sauce yesterday. How do I clean? I have tried mild soap to no available. I am afraid of using anything stronger on the table without consulting expert. Thanks.
A.Thats a very nice table.
The stone looks like a honed white carrara which can be very porous. The rule of thumb with stone is that stains that are darker than the stone are true stains and will need to be poulticed. If the so called stain is lighter than the stone then it is an etch mark. Those are the so called water marks that look like dull spots. If that is what you have they need to be honed out with 240 or 400 grit silcon carbide discs. I am guessing that what you have is either an etch from the acid(the tomato sauce is acidic) or the oil in the sauce stained the stone. Your best bet is to call a stone refinisher and have them remove the stain.

You can also try poultice the stain yourself.

and find the section on stain removal it will tell you what to do.
