Q.We recently built a new home and had black absolute countertops installed in the kitchen. We thought we knew what to expect given that we had black absolute countertops in our previous home. In our previous home, the stone did not have any obvious variations and we had no problems. We moved into our new home several months ago and have numerous variations (darker) in the stone. Even thouth the new countertops have had very little use, it appears that new spots (darker) are developing when non-acidic food sets on the counter for a short time. Please advise on how we can determine whether this stone is of poor quality and has been doctored. Thank You.

A. Hello-That is strange as when stone has been doctored the stone or shoe polish will etch and create lighter spots or ghost stains.

You are having darker spots when food is placed on the surface.
