travertine/onyx hybrid

Q.I am considering this "hybrid" (as distributor called it) for my shower and floors. How can I find out the quality of this particular stone. The rep and website www.aandaglobalsupply.com also says seal...not sure they are experts on stone after spending 2 hrs reading your site....your honest opinion on this stone will help me. thanks
A.Hi There,
No Doubt its a very nice looking stone. Travertine is normally a dense stone and when honed is a great choice for bathroom and shower. I am not sure of its characteristics when there is an onyx intrusion into the travertine.
I saw a whole bathroom done in it a few months back. It was a brand new installation so it looked perfect. As far as sealing it you can do the water test. Puddle up a palm sized puddle of water on a sample piece. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and wipe it up.If you have a dark mark it has absorbed the water and could stand to be sealed. Just remember that sealing the stone wont stop those etch marks.
While you can use our products to maintain it on a daily
basis at some point you may need a pro to come in a refinish the stone. Keep a spare piece handy so he or she can reproduce the finish.
