I recently had my kitchen countertops resurfaced with granite. To be exact it is Santa Cecilia. After the installers left and I did cleanup I noticed the granite had a gritty feeling and a sort of spotty milky look to it. Well, 3 months later and hundreds of washings, it's still constantly gritty and has spotty milky finish over the whole countertop. What's going on?? I hope you can help me with this. I'm being told there isn't anything wrong....I'm pretty sure there is! The company just wants me to "go away". Thanks, Janet P.S. There is also very little shine to this granite. ;o(

The simple fact in the matter is quite simple: you've obviously got a very low-grading slab.
Now, I don'r know who's responsible for the selection of the slab in your particular picture; therefore I will not poin any accunsing finger in one direction or another at this stage.
The fact remains that the slab is a dog and, even if you hand-picked it yourself, nobody - the stone yard or the fabricator - disclosed the low-quality of that particular slab to you.
On the other hand, in the stone industry nobody is obliged to grade stone.
The bottom of this matter is that you've got a lemon but you can't make a lemonade out of it.
There's no way that one can turn firewood into veneer-grade or select, alas... :-(
Your only recourse if to take the fabricator to court. But if you selected the slab yourself, it could be a hard battle. In such case, you could fight them (or the stone yard) on consumer fraud charges for they sold you garnet gneiss (that's what
Santa Cecilia is) as granite.
With the right expert and marblecleaning.org in your corner, you should be able to pull it off easily.
