marble water rings & etching

Hi, I have a beautiful 40 year old marble (coral color) coffee table inheritated form grandmother. I noticed there were glass rings, and etching on the top in three places. I used a marble cleaner designed for stain removal, but the water rings are still there and the area is dull versus the rest of the table which is shiny. Help, how can I restore the shine to the dull areas and get rid of the water rings. Thanks, The rest of the table sits on a block marble base and is in excellent condition.

Dear Missey-Lynn:
Etching is surface damage, like a shallow and wide chemical scratch, not a stain. How could you possibly think of removing a scratch with a stain remover?... :-)
Considering the age of the top and its current conditions, unfortunately there's not much that you could do yourself. Refinishing stone surface is a craft that requires special equipment, materials and skills.
Only a stone restoration contractor could do that for you, by slightly re-grinding (honing) and then polishing your entire piece of rock. You can find qualified stone restoration contractors near you by going to Find a PRO at www.stoneandtilepros.com.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
