Honed Marble

I have a new kitchen island slab of honed Alabama White marble. I would like to seal it but am concerned about food safety and also maintaining the honed finish. I do not want any gloss. Will the MB-4 work? Also, what do you reccomend for daily kitchen counter cleaning for this material? I would like a product that will kill germs.

Dear Lisa:

Impregnators for stone (a.k.a. sealers) are strictly below-the-surface (of the stone) products. Therefore, for starters, they can not chance in any way, shape or form the original finish of your slab, for the most important phase of the application of an impregnator like MB-4 is to make sure that every residue of the productr is removed from the surface of the stone, before it has a chance to dry.

Whatever goes inside the stone to do its job (sealing) is inert material once cured and can't pose any ha z ard.

Finally, about the cleaner/disinfectant, as a manufacturer I used to bottle one such product and we could not bottle it fast enough!

However, despite the huge financial loss, I decided to discontinue it effective January this year. (You should have heard the screaming and yelling of my marketing department!!)

Why did I do that?

Because the more I got to know about those sorts of germicidal products, the more I got to reali z e how dangerous and ha z ardous to people health they could be. (Do you remember when D.D.T. was considered the best invention after the wheel?...) And I'm not talking about my particular product, here; but each and every one of them, including all popular household names. If you don't believe me, just read any one of their back label. You can also read the free article on the subject that you will find by logging on at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/helpful-hints.htm, FYI, I wrote that article 3 years ago.

Therefore, if you're really concerned about your family health like you seem to be, the best piece of advice that I can give you is to stay away from products like that. A product like MB-5 will do all the cleaning you will ever need and then some!

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   J
