Honed Marble Tile Floor

Hello. I'm having my bathroom remodeled and just happened across your website today and have found it rich with information that I haven't seen anywhere. I'm having honed Chestnut Brown marble installed on my floor. My research tells me that this color of marble comes from the Philippines and is considered a dense marble. Is this true? If so, does this type of marble, being honed, need to be sealed? If sealing is required, what type of product do you recommend? I'm in the process of downloading your information brochures and if I've asked a question that is answered in those, I apologize. Thanks, Nancy

I'm not really familiar with that particular marble, but I would be surprised if turns out not to be dense. (Most marbles are.)

But even assuming that it absorbs somehow, ask to yourself: what kind of chances do you have to spill coffe and cooking oil on your bathroom floor without realizing it? (Which means leaving them sitting on the surface of the stone for half an holur or better?) If the answer tho that question is, virtually nil, then you know what not to do!

Remember, impregnators (a.k.a. sealers) have their function and are wonderful products when the situation grants for their use (absorbency and location), but, not matter what, the more you leave the stone alone, the better it is for it.

The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is far more important than the sealing and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
