Very, very old marble floor

Hey Maurizio I live in an 1840s era house with a very old (100 years?)black and white tile floor. I don't know what the tiles are set into. Although the tiles areclosely set to each other, There are a few gaps where the tiles have shifted and no evidence of grout ever. I would like to improve this floor a bit--NOT make it look new nor shiny-- but it always looks dirty and the spaces between just hold dirt. What can reasonably be done? Thanks Sherron

Dear Sherron:

Hire a professional stone restoration contractor and ask them to do the following:

1. Clean the open grout gaps thoroughly, and then fill them with white sand less grout.

2. Hone the entire floor with an aggressive 50-70 grit abrasive pad under the stone floor machine.

3. Finish the job with a 150 and, optionally 250 good-quality honing powder like MB-14.

If everything is done corectly, the final result will be a brand-new 100-year old marble floor!

And that is what you want, right?... :-)
