kitchen floor care

I just had a travertine floor installed in my kitchen. It was sealed with a commericially available product made for porous stone. It is a very light color as no enhancer was applied. I have tree questions. 1) How should I maintain it? 2) What should I do if red wine, coffee or tomato sauce is spilled on it? 3) 1) Is it too late to apply a color enhancer and if not can you supply recommend a reference on how to do it? Also, on your website, which brochure should I request? Thank you, Kathy, PA

Dear Kathy:
I will answer your questions in the same order they're asked:
1) By logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/helpful-hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay- per-download format in our Educational Literature section at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/literature.htm.

And remember, every single penny of the cost of the literature will be used to support this site and its cause: your cause.

While you are in the “Helpful Hints” section, do spend some time reading all of the interesting FREE articles you'll find in there!

2) Pick up the spills as soon as possible, by blotting them. If your travertine is polished (opposed to hone-finished = satin finish), it will get etched and show "water spots", etc. No sealer on planet Earth could prevent those surface damages from happening.

3) If the sealer that was applied is any good, yes, it is too late.

4) I answered your final question with my first answer.

Will you please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

By spreading the word about this valuable site among your friend & family and the stone trades' people you've been dealing with, you will be rendering everybody a valuable service!

Thank you

Ciao and good luck,

Maurizio Bertoli
