limestone cleaning and sealing

We have a large outdoor sculpture made of indiana limestone. It sits on a granite base. What should we do to protect our sculpture? It has some discoloration--can we clean it? Ought we to seal it somehow? Thanks.

Dear Karen:

Indiana limestone is probably the best limestone for outdoors. Of course, because it is outdoors, you do not want to apply any impregnator (a.k.a. sealer) to it.

It will get dirty of course, but you can always clean it with a heavy-duty cleaner rated “for natural stone”, can't you?...
