Cloudy Marble Bathroom countertop

We recently moved into an apartment that was built in the late 1980s. The master bath is entirely marble and most probably the original bathroom. Most of the marble is in good shape but around the water taps next to the sink and in the shower the marble is cloudy. Around the water taps next to the sink the marble is actually very white. The granite is a dark brown with pattern in it. Our landlord claims that he has "polished" the marble but I have my doubts. Is there any way of removing this white staining? Is there a do it yourself solution? Regards Ulana

Dear Ulana:

Is there any way of removing this white staining? Is there a do it yourself solution?

It depends. If it is a mark of corrosion (like you have in the shower stall) then only a professional could repair that. If it is an accumulation of mineral deposit instead, then you can easily do it yourself.

Scrape the worst with a ra z or blade, and then finish the job with a product like MB-3.
