Exterior slate sealer, frost protection.

Hello,Maurizio. I have an exterior deck with slate. I live near Kamloops B.C. Canada. Due to the extreemes in temperatuers +38/-25 deg C may slate has been flaking. The freeze thaw cycles durring the winter are to blame. Is there a product that will seal out the moisture and therefore stop or slow down the process?

Dear Fred:
The short answer is, no.
First off, stone outdoors should never be sealed. Second, if you don't select the "right" stone for outdoors installations, you will never solve the consequent problem with some "miracle-in-a-bottle". There's no substitute for knowledge and professionalism.
By saying slate you're saying very little – if anything at all. There are many different (and I do mean different) kinds of slate that span from dense and acceptable rocks, to slate that will actually fall apart under running water or turn into mud, and everything in between. Obviously the slate that you have was not appropriate for the project.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm ?
Ciao and good luck,
