Polished Travertine or Polished marble?

Hi, Im just about to buy some stone flooring for my entire ground floor.... ok im in the UK so the houses over here are smaller over here but its around 50 sq M. Ive found 2 stones which I really like.... Polished Vein cut light Travertine (Italian) and the same type of colour and vertical striping in Marble (Spanish). This is for my living room and all the way through to kitchen. I also have installed electric underfloor heating thoughout ground of house to give that roman bath feel! Ok so my Question is which one is better for stains, wear, maintenance... etc etc. Thanks in advance, Antonio.

Dear Antonio:

Ok so my Question is which one is better for stains, wear, maintenance... etc etc.

They are similar and neither is good to be installed in a kitchen.

No polished calcareous rock belongs in a kitchen. Try to spill a few drops of lemon juice, vinegar, orange juice, tomato sauce, etc. on a spare tile; let them dwell for 15 seconds or so and then wipe them dry. You will see what I mean.

Any other questions?... J

Oh, BTW, if anybody tells you that you can solve that problem with a sealer or something, don't believe them.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm? J

Ciao and good luck,
