Carrara Marble Kitchen Table

I just bought a kitchen table with a polished white carrara top. Would you recommend not sealing it and simply training my family (with young kids) in how to keep it clean? Or is it worthwhile to have it sealed since we'll be using it regularly? Thank you!

Dear Susanna:

Training your family members and sealing (better said: pretending to seal) your polished marble countertop will not accomplish much. It's going to be a constant uphill battle and you will inevitably lose… L

The only sensible solution would be to have your countertop professionally honed (and delivered with a low-honed finish) with the use of good-quality honing powder 150 grit. (Different honing means will not give you the same great result.) After that it will need to be sealed (the honing process does open the pores of the stone in its surface) and care for properly, but it will be very easy.

Trying to keep it highly polished and unscathed?... Not likely!
