This is a very dark granite and after reading your site I was concerned it may be similar to some of the blacks that are such problems. We are using tiles for the shower and have purchased an 8ft counter for the sink. The tiles are from India and the counter was purchased at a different store Import Tile in Berkeley, Ca which has a very good reputation. The tile and counter seem to be the same color. We haven't started this project yet and plan to do most of the work ourselves. Can you give us any information on the quality of the seaweed green tile color. Thank you for your help.

Seaweed Green is a stone from India and is classified as part of the gneiss group, probably charnockite composition. It's a very good stone and, for all I know it's never been a candidate for malicious doctoring. With absorbency rate of 0.2% to 0.3% is borderline and may need to be sealed. To find out do this:

Spill some water in a couple of spots of your stone, let it dwell for 5 minutes or so, wipe it dry and observe if the areas under which the water has been sitting have become (temporarily) any darker than the rest. If so, then you will apply a good-quality impregnating sealer like MB-4. If not, don't bother.

Now remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is far more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about it from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
