red flamed granit tile on exterior porch

It seems to me that it easily absorbes water as the color changes drastically when wetting the tile. Since I live in NY area, does this tile needs sealer/waterpoofing to prevent frost/thaw issues ?! If it does which one you recommend ? Also, does it need stain protection or sealer will take care of the stain protection as well ?! Thank You

Dear Alex:

I wouldn't worry about it. It is normal for a rough stone like flamed granite to become darker when wet, but that doesn't mean that the water is going deep inside the stone; just surface wetting will darken it. It's never a good idea to seal stone outdoors, but if you like the depth of color that you see when it's wet, the application of a good-quality stone color enhancer like MB-6 will give you that look permanently.
