Surface scratches

I have a bathroom with a white carrera vanity top. Recently I noticed some white surface scratches - not deep, but quite white. I am having them buffed out, but in the meantime my mother-in-law is coming to visit. Is there any temporary fix so that she won't notice the scratches for a few days? Clearly, this would not be a solution, just a way to buy some time!

Dear Ali:

The answer to your last question is, no.

As for your scratches, if they're not deep and look very white, they may be a combination of a scratch and a phenomenon called “stunned crystals”, which is typical of true geological marble like White Carrara.

If that's the case, the scratches could be repaired, but the stunned crystal white lines may still be visible at the end of the job, unless the contractor grinds real deep that would cause unsightly “dishing” of the surface of the stone.

I hope that I'm wrong on this one, of course, but I just wanted to introduce you to the possibility.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm? J

Ciao and good luck,
