emerald pearl granite kitchen worktop

Dear Sir We have just had the worktop fitted and I have noticed an area where there is pitting which appears to follow the pattern of the granite. However I was unaware if this is the nature of the beast or if this should have been polished more thoroughly? Many thanks

Dear Tracey:

Emerald Pearl should not show much pitting, especially if concentrated only in one area. The polishing, which is done by the factory, has nothing to do with it. That's the consequence of a poor grading slab and there's not much that can be done to actually fix it. A good stone restoration contractor could fill those pitting with CA glue (cyanoacrylate glue, a.k.a. super-glue), but it won't be easy to find such a pro. Here in the “colonies” is becoming rather popular amongst a certain elite of stone restoration contractors, but to the best of my knowledge it's a technique still on the unknown side in the UK .

Although you shouldn't hold high-hopes, you could try this home-remedy: rub a stick of paraffin wax over the pitted area and then remove it by using a 00 steel wool pad. Some of it will remain to fill the pits (hopefully). But even if it works, you do understand that's just a temporary fix, don't you?...
