exterior slate usage

I read one of your answers concerning sealing of slate in freeze-thaw conditions. I to intend to install slate (Brazilian Slate, 12x12's) on a front entry. I intend to use a laxtex modified mortar bed that will range from 1-1/2" to 3/4" in over a 5 x 6 foot area. The tile will be applied over existing concrete (aprox 6 inches thick over a heated space (a cellar type location). Any recommendations or comments will be appreciated.

Dear J. Starr:
Just don't seal it and make friends with a good-quality stone color enhancer/impregnator resikstant to acids, like MB-6 to take care of the scratches and etchings. (If you seal it, you will not avoid any of those, but the color-enhancer wouldn't work well if there's an impregnator - a.k.a. sealer - in the stone.)
Appropriate specialty cleaning products for routine maintenance are also in oder.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm? J

Ciao and good luck,
