Water marks on granite

I just purchased a Snow White granite countertop. It looks similar to Kashir White but without the yellow and has grey lines. The distributor says that the granite is from India. When the countertop gets wet, it turns a dark yellowish color and stays that way until it dries. Is granite supposed to do that? Is there any way to "seal" the surface of the granite so it doesn't get wet?

Of course not. but then again what has Snow White (or Kashmir, for that matter) got to do with granite?...

There should be, of course. But you have to have your fabricator/installer do it for you. In fact, if they already applied an impregnator to your countertop, the best bet is to finish the sealing job with the same product that was originally applied.
And once the sealing if completed, remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic!
