Travertine in shower stall

Have unfinished travertine on niche and shower bench seat. What can I use to do regular cleaning? It appears edge of shower bench seat is "wearing out" is there someting I should do to prevent further damage. Shower is only about 4 months old. I believe sealed but don't know how well or properly. Shower floor has pebble rock what do I use to regularly clean this? All sounded like good idea when we put it in! thanks

Dear Gloria:

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by saying that “ It appears edge of shower bench seat is "wearing out" is there something ” but I have to assume that's kinda crumbling a little bit.

Typically travertine is a very good stone for installations in wet environments, but a few selections, or a plain unlucky selection of a good travertine, may present problems like that. Of course, the sealing – which was certainly not necessary – has nothing to do with that. If it stabilizes KI would try to live with it. If not, you're only option is to replace it.

Answering now to your question about routine cleaning, which, as it should be intuitive is vastly more important than the sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable), by logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:   http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge.
