Mildew and soap scum on travertine shower stall

My shower has travertine walls and marble tile floor, how do I do my weekly cleaning to get rid of all the soap scum and mold?

Dear Dave:

If your problem is really only soap scum and mildew, than two products like MB-3 soap film remover and MB-9 Mildew stain remover are “you men”. But…

In the stone business there's only one instance – and one instance only – when the perceived problem corresponds exactly to the actual problem: when a piece of stone is broken – End of the list. In all other instances, the perceived problem could be the actual problem, but then again, all too often it is not.

In the cas e of excessive soap scum and mildew accumulation, the real problem could be structural. If for instance you have grout missing or damaged, and water found its way behind and under your tiles, you could have excessive mildew coming from behind, not from above. And the “soap scum” may turn out to be efflorescence instead. If that's the cas e – and I sure hope it is not – it would not by using the most appropriate cleaning agents in the entire world that you would be able to solve the real problem.

Ciao and good luck,
