Black granite grave marker

How do I remove hard water stains from a black granite grave marker and is there anything that can be placed on the marker to prevent them from returning? The granite does shine when wet. Thanks

Dear Shawna:

In the stone world there is only one instance, and one instance only, when the perceived problem always correspond to the real problem: when a piece of stone is broken.

In all other instances, the perceived problem may correspond to the actual one, but then again it may not.

Having said that, if your problem is really hard-water staining (and, under the circumstances, good chances are that it is), then MB-3, after removing the worst with a ra z or blade, will do the job for you. But if it is something else that just looks like hard-water staining (acid etching, efflorescence), then it's a different problem and, consequently, the solution would be different. If MB-3 fails, most likely you will need the services of a bona-fide stone restoration contractor.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,
