Marble Kitchen countertops |

Dear Maurizio, We recently installed HONED carrara marble in our kitchen. I was told if I keep applying a water/vinegar solution, the marble will continue to hone further. Is this true? Is this desirable? Thank You
Dear Renee:
No, it is not true: water and vinegar will only make the finish duller producing a lower hone-finish than you have now. But that is not technically honing: it's acid washing or, better yet, acid etching. Is that what you want?
Desirable? Not in my book. Occasional spillage of acidic liquids on a kitchen countertop is one story and, besides, it can't be helped. A systematic application of an acid to a stone that's sensitive to acids is a totally different story, and something that I certainly would not do to my own marble countertop.
If you desire a lower hone-finish use an orbital sander (
not a belt sander) with a 60 grit metal-grade sand-paper. That's quite easy to do and perfectly sound.
And remember to use a good quality cleaning agent rated for stone like MB-5 for your daily cleaning.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at:

Ciao and good luck,
Mauri
