Outdoor granite

Hi, I built an outdoor kitchen, and luckily I have a friend in the granite business whom which i bought the granite from,.needless to say I bought high quality granite much to beautiful to waste outdoors,.. but I did get a good price so I didnt hesitate,..only thing now Im worried it will not hold its gorgeous luster and deep colors, due to being in direct sunlight for all of the day. What can I do to maintain, its beauty? Its a beautifyl salmon color with rich pearly,.platinum and chocolate colors,.. thank you for your time and expertise! Sincerely, Albina Lombardi

Dear Albina:

Please, let us never forget that every time we talk about granite, in 98% (no it is not a typo) of the cases we're not talking about granite.

So, the honest answer to your question is: I have not the faintest idea.

All true geological granite and many mercantile granites will do just fine outdoors, but on the other hand, many other mercantile granite will fade and lose their original polish.

Anything to do to “protect” “granite” outdoors?

Not really: it is either one of those stones that will perform well (and no “protection” would ever be needed) or it is one of those stones that will not perform well outdoors (and no “protection” will ever do the first thing to help).

And now that we established that, all is left to clarify is your definition of “high-quality granite”. Just curious… J

Hoping that your “granite” is a good one for outdoors, remember, it's never too early to think about the proper maintenance of your stone. The issue of what you'll be doing day in and day out to your stone is – as it should be intuitive – vastly more important than its sealing (if and when possible and/or advisable) and it's all too often neglected. As you can tell by reading many of this site's postings, you're not likely to get good information about routine care from your dealer or installer. Don't become another statistic! By logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:   http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm , you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay-per-download format in our Educational Literature section at:   http://www.mbstone.com/literature/literature.htm .

And remember, every single penny of the cost of the literature will be used to support this site and its cause: your cause.

While you are in the “Helpful Hints” section, do spend some time reading all of the interesting FREE articles you'll find in there!

Finally, keep in mind that we need your support to help us helping you!
