Tumbled Travertine Bathroom floor and shower

Q. Hello, We just redid a bathroom with tumbled Travertine tiles and spectralok grout. The installation is beautiful. We would like to understand how to care for it now. I see a lot of information on "polished" stone, but this is not polished. Would you please help me understand what cleaners to use, if I should bother sealing the tile, and any other basic maintenance information that you are able to provide. Thank you in advance for your help. Mike

A. Dear Mike:

I am pleased to hear that the tile setter has done a good job. In order to maintain your tumbled travertine tiles you basically need 2 products. A neutral cleaner for your floors -- MB Sone Care MB 1 for your everyday mopping of the floor and if your shower stall is tiled with tumbled travertine you will need MB3 - soap film remover.

I would save the money on purchasing a sealer, unless you intend to go into the bathroom with coffee, tea or cooking oil. Sealers are only formulated to prevent staining from occurring.

Be cautious with cosmetics and perfumes. If you accidentally spill them on to the travertine these substances will corrode the surfaces.
