slate in the bathroom

Hi Maurizio, I love the look of slate and would like to install it in my new master bath...in the shower stall (walls + floor) and also on the bathroom floor. I don't know much about slate, though, so I don't know the pros and cons. Can you enlighten me? Thank you. -Gina

Dear Gina:

This is an easy one:

Cons: too many to list.

Pros: None.

It may sound like I'm joking, but I'm not. Here's why:

By saying slate you're saying very little – if anything at all. There are many different (and I do mean different) kinds of slate that span from dense and (almost) acceptable rocks, to slate that will actually fall apart under running water, or turn into mud, and everything in between.

Now, how much to your trust the business ethics and stone knowledge of your slate dealer?...

Inasmuch my heart bleeds by saying this, if you like the look of slate, get porcelain tiles look-alike.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,

Mauri z io Bertoli
