travertine etching

Hi Maurizio, you have helped me before and I am hoping you can help me again. I have 2000 square feet of honed and filled travertine. I recently had a gathering where some margaritas were spilled on the floor without my knoweledge (the mix has lime juice in it). The juice has etched the stone and now has a very dull finish where the drink sat on the floor. Can we do anything to restore the finish from the etching? Would the marble repair kit be appropriate?

Dear Kimberly:
Yummy! Them Margaritas sound really good!! Any chance that you will ever invite me to one of your parties?!!... LOL

As for the fixin' of your etch marks, it's no big deal.
Unfortunately my Marble Repair Kit won't cut the mustard (it's only good for polished surfaces, not hone-finished), but some good ol' metal-grade sandpaper will! (I don't sell that! :-()
Start with a 120 grit, and then use higher grits, going over the previous cut, until you get a finish as close as possible to the rest. A few weeks of foot traffic will take care to produce the perfect blend.
Do sped some time with each grit. Don't just give it a few strokes and then go to the next grit.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,

Mauri z io Bertoli
