honed travertine absorbing water |
Article Number: 729 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 12:00 AM |
I just installed a honed travertine in my master bath on the floor and shower walls. I notice that when wet they get dark like they are absorbing the water. I have read your Q&A for two nights and plan will be buying your educational literature on maintenance and it appears? Please confirm that travertine does not need a sealer, especially in the shower. Regards
Dear Joycee:
There are a few selections of travertine that are more absorbent than others. I consider those selections of an inferior quality, but who am I to say?...
Going by your description, it appears to me that you've got a travertine much more absorbent than usual. Under such circumstances I would consider applying a good-quality stone impregnating sealer like MB-4. Or, if you like the deeper color of the stone when is wet, a good-quality impregnating-sealer/color-enhancer, like MB-6 that would give you the “wet look” (just the depth of color – not any sheen) permanently.
However, the most important issue is that your tiles have been installed correctly in your shower stall. In our maintenance guidelines you will also find a few tips on how to properly install natural stone shower stalls.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at:

Ciao and good luck,
