Travertine Quality?

Hello, My wife and I are at odds over buying Travertine, currently at our local Costco. The box says Kontakt Stone (from Turkey). I think because of the number of filled pits it is very poor quality, but she says it's just natural. Is there any way to judge the quality by looking at the back of the tile or by the size of the holes filled? Thanks!

Dear David:

The smaller and the fewer the holes are the better the grading of the travertine.

Of course it would be much better if merchants were forced to disclose the grading, don't you think?

And if you think so, then you should consider supporting marblecleaning.org.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,

Mauri z io Bertoli
