Anorthosite, Black Labrador Silver, Leathered

Does the anorthosite, Black Labrador Silver, require sealing? If yes, with what kind of sealer? Does the "leather"ing process change the need for sealing? What routine maintainence is required?

Dear Roni:

Black Labrador Silver, require sealing?

Nope.

Does the "leather"ing process change the need for sealing?

Technically no, but in a lateral way it does. It creates the same situation as if the stone was hone-finished, which will be fertile ground for surface soiling (no impregnator can effectively prevent surface soling). Only the application of a good-quality stone color enhancer non-sensitive to acidic substances like MB-6 would solve the problem by turning the stone black as if it were polished, while not altering in any way, shape or form the leather-finish.

As for routine care – which is always vastly more important than the sealing - by logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at:   http://www.mbstone.com/HH_promo/helpful_hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge. The full version of it – a 7-page document considered by many as an industry benchmark – is available in pay-per-download format in our Educational Literature section at:   http://www.mbstone.com/literature/literature.htm.

And remember, every single penny of the cost of the literature will be used to support this site and its cause: your cause.

While you are in the “Helpful Hints” section, do spend some time reading all of the interesting FREE articles you'll find in there!

Finally, keep in mind that we need your support to help us helping you!
