Changing the color of Travertine tiles

Hello, we are about to install in our backyard, travertine tiles over the concrete patio. I'm not thrilled with the color and want to darken it. Can that be done and, if so, what would you suggest using? Would Wood Stains work? Thanks for your help.

Dear Patty:

Would Wood Stains work?

I really don't know. Just the thought of staining stone gives me the creeps!... L

I've seen a few attempts at staining stone, but the results were always terrible; for stone does not absorb in a consistent and uniform way like wood does. The few “experiments” that I saw were all blotchy. Like I said: terrible!

None of them was travertine though.

What I'm trying to say here is that you're pretty much on your own with this one…

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
