White film on travertine

My cleaning person used a granite cleaner on the travertine in the shower which left a white film on the travertine- when it is wet you the travertine is perfectly fine when it is dry the film is obvious- this travertine was installed a year ago and 3 coats of sealer was placed on it. What can I do?

Dear Sara:

And that is only one of the very reason why I always say that no stone should ever be sealed in a wet environment.

Quite possibly, the residue of the sealer was never removed proplerly and the cleanr that was used activated it.

Not to mention that the definition of “granite or stone cleaner” means absolutely nothing. The cleaner must be chosen based upon the type of soil that you want to remove (soap deposits, most likely), not just the stone. Only a cleaner specifically designed for the task like MB-3 could do the job.

But first you need to get rid of whatever is sitting on your stone now, and that can be only accomplished professionally.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
