black slate

Q. I just move to a house and the basement has black slate floor. What is the best way to clean the floor? It looks like the color is fading out. When we mop the floor it looks nice, but when the floor dries some parts looks white and some black. Help help it looks like in this floor was never maintenance. Do you have any suggestions? please help Thank you in advance for you help Miguel

A. It sounds like a thorough cleaning followed by an application of color enhancing sealer would be in order. A color enhancing sealer will give the slate that 'still wet' look while at the same time giving it protection from staining.
