How to clean travertine in an area with somewhat hard water

Maurizio, I have travertine floors in my house and clean them with a broom and water when needed. I also have a travertine shower and the water in this area is somewhat hard. So far (2 months) I have not noticed hard water stains, but I'm sure they will eventually appear. What do you recommend for cleaning a travertine shower of hard water stains, and how often should I do this? (when I see the stains, or proactively every "x" weeks) Thank you, Heidi

Dear Heidi:

It appears to me like you're trying to put a cast on your arm before breaking it!... :-)

If the stall was installed properly, there's no water in the entire country that's hard to the point of creating any concern. (Unless is well-water.)

It is essential that you monitor your grout and caulk lines often and address any possible problem, such as grout coming off or cracking, immediately!

Your main concern is to make sure that no water will ever find its way behind and underneath your travertine tiles.

Here attached, find our maintenance guidelines for residential stone installations. It usually carries a $12.00 price tag, but this week we're running a special and give it for free to every person inquiring about maintenance issues.

May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?   :-)

Ciao and good luck,

Mauri z io Bertoli
