Polished or Unpolished Marble?

Q. Hi I am considering having a Mosaic Floor Medallion professionally installed. It is made up of..Crema Marfil, Dark Emperador, Light Emperador marble. I have the option of polished or unpolished? It will be installed in my front entryway /foyer area of my home. The surronding tile will be coordinating porcelain tile that does not have a super shiny/polished look to it. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having the polished finish vs unpolished finish?

A. Hi Jenny. Great question. Having the stone polished or not is a matter of design and personal taste. If the stone you chose is polished and you have an active entry hall it will require ongoing maintenance. It will at some point require to be refinished but it could be quite awhile. If you chose the honed finish, maintenance will be less. However, it would be wise to seal the honed stone as the pores of the stone are open. Don't worry too much about sealing polished stone.

In my opinion either way sounds like a great addition to your entry hall.
