Granite Sealing

Hello, I have just purchased a home with granite countertops in the kitchen. The previous owner said it was black pearl and did not need to be sealed, which is true according to your web site. However after checking the internet I believe it is either emerald pearl or black ice. Do either of these need to be sealed. The house also has granite in the bath and on some of the window ledges, these are a brown color and I would think need to be sealed. Please let me know so I will know what I need to order. Thanks, Gerard

Dear Gerard:
Neither Emeral Pearl, not Black Ice need any sealing.
As for the other stones you have in the bathroom (BTW, you're not considering to actually seal a window sill, are you?... :-)) to find out if that could be sealed at all, do this:
Spill some water in a couple of spots of your stone, let it dwell for 5 minutes or so, wipe it dry and observe if the areas under which the water has been sitting have become (temporarily) any darker than the rest. If so, then you will apply a good-quality impregnating sealer. If not, don't bother.
You'd better learn how to take care of your stone on a routine basis, which is vastly more important that the seal-a-mania!...:-)
