Outdoor granite table top

I am planning to buy a granite table for my deck. I live in Philly and the winters can be below 30F for extended periods. The product info claims that the granite can develop cracks in temps below 33F. Is there a way to care for table but still leave it out in winter? My wife is set on buying this table. Thanks, Jack

Dear Jack:
I know Philly quite well: I live only 1 3/4 hour from it, and I teach regularly my 3-day stone restoration classes in Folcroft... :-)

Now to your question, there are well over 2000 different stone traded as granite. Approximately one dozen of them are true geological granite. Another two or three dozens can be considered next of kin. All the other 2000 plus are stone that are related to granite and to each other like a cat to cow.
So, which "granite" do you have in mind?...
Welcome to stone industry, where quacks rule and nobody is even trying to do the first thing about it!! (Well, not everybody... :-))
Bottom line, all things considered, I can't take a chance to advice you to go for it.
The best thing to do is take it indoor in November or so.

May I ask you now to please read our Statement of Purpose that you can find at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/purpose.htm?

Ciao and good luck,
