green onyx bathroom floor.

Hi, We are doing a new bathroom and I would like to use the onyx tile for the floor. Is that a good idea or will it scratch easily? It will be in my boy's bathroom. If I use it, how do I clean it? Thank you in advance for your time. Ines

Dear Ines:

This side of polished granite and mercantile granite, all polished stones can scratch. However, in a bathroom people typically walk either bare-foot or with slippers, and therefore the scratching is certainly not as easy as if the same floor were, say, in a kitchen or an entrance way. So I wouldn't worry about that much. (Just don't walk with your high-spiked shoes on it!!... J )

As for the proper care of that stone, it is much like polished marble. Being that's even denser than the average marble, it can be sealed – which is very good. (It can't stain, either.) For the rest, by logging into the Helpful Hints section of our website at: http://www.marblecleaning.org/helpful-hints.htm, you will be able to get the short version of our maintenance guidelines at no charge.
