Onyx in a kitchen |
Article Number: 1103 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Sat, Jan 26, 2008 at 12:00 AM |
Maurizio, I am considering using Red Onyz for my Kitchen Countertops I am familiar with all the con's of using Onyx in the Kitchen ( Staining and its tendency to Etch with acids ) I am told that this stone can only be obtained in 2cm thickness, will this be strong enough to support without cracking, there will only be a 1" overhang on all edges and it will lay on standard cabinets. Thanks, Mike.
Dear Mike:
Thank you for your candor.
If consumers are perfectly aware of the maintenance issues inherent to a particular stone installed in a specific environment, and still decide to go for it, I have no problem.
The only time I have a problem is when nobody told them!
Now, answering your question, Onyx marble is typically quite fractured and, consequently, very fragile in a slab size. However, if the fabricator is willing to take the risk of handling such a delicate material, if the installation is done properly there should not be any problem.
May I ask you now to please read and e-sign our Statement of Purpose at:

Ciao and good luck,
Mauri
