smoke stain on polished white marble table tops

my queustion is about smoke damage to the marble tops of some 60+ year old mahogany furniture (coffee table and 2 end tables) with tops of polished white marble with fine veins of black or grey. They were in a storage unit that burned and left smoke stains on the marble (and wood). I want to restore these table tops. They were not burned, only discolord from smoke damage, and the usual household cleaners have not worked. The surfaces had been etched or lightoly scratched from years of use, but otherwise usable before the smoke damage. What suggestions do you have for me to do this restoration? Or, should I leave it to a professional restorer in the New Orleans area?

Personally I would consider using a pro. Not only will he remove the smoke staining, but he will also lightly re-grind (hone) and polish your top while fixing all the etching and scratches.
