cleaning grout off onyx and buffing tiles???

Q.i just put in some 1" onyx tiles and the grout set up way too fast...end result grout all over tiles which are getting scratched up as I try to clean them with a wooden stick. Any ideas of best way to clean off grout (tried an acid and it dulled the tiles and didn't really cut the grout). Can they be buffed to their original shine? HELP!
A.Ugh,ouch I can actually feel the pain of that poor onyx.
Sounds like you used sanded grout on a soft calcite based stone, beat them with a wooden stick and then gave them an acid wash.
Heres the scoop without actually seeing the damage. Its past a DIY project at this point.
Call in a pro to access the situation. It can be saved if you listen to the advice of a bona fide professional stone refinisher.
He or she will probably want to replace the grout with unsanded grout, remove the grout residue from the surface and hone and polish the onyx back to factory spec luster.
